Have E-Trac (and a White's DFX), Will Travel

I'll be leaving for the trip to Georgia to visit my Dad, in about a week and a half. I don't have a set schedule or route and was thinking last night that it would be feasible for me to try to hook-up with some experienced E-Trac users on my way down. I've gotten pretty good at picking up clad coins, but I know I'd pick up some good tips from some of you guys that have run the machine much longer than me.

So you won't think I'm a psycho or crazed killer, it's probably appropriate to say a little about myself. I, obviously, grew up in Georgia and joined the Air Force in 1978 after graduation and a short stint in the tire manufacturing enterprise. The Air Force suited me fine and I retired just a little over 4 years ago after a 30 years and 4 day career; I now live in Idaho. I started detecting last year with a White's DFX. I like that machine and still have it as my back-up, but the call of the E-Trac finally got me and I bought one back in November. I'm in the "learning" phase right now. So, I'm pretty harmless. I would promise that I don't drool on my shirt, but if I found a silver dollar I honestly might.

Anyway, if anyone has the time and inclination to visit with a fellow E-trac user and give me some tips and advice, here's my tentative schedule. I'll probably leave on the 10th or 11th of March. I will drive through Utah and plan to spend a couple of days around Arches National Park taking some photos. Then through SW Colorado, northern New Mexico, over to Amarillo, TX to Dallas to I-20. Then across I-20 through Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. In Alabama I'll leave I-20 and head over to Montgomery where I'll pick-up some US and state roads to get me to my Dad's place in central Georgia.

I plan to stay there about a month, but you know how it is when you're visiting family. I might only be there for 2 days! If all goes as planned though, I should leave around April 15th. I have 3 friends to visit on my return trip; one in Mineral Springs, AR, one in Stillwater, OK and one in Colorado Springs, CO. So draw a line roughly from Macon, Georgia to Colorado Springs, CO and intersect those three stops and it'll show my approximate return route. From Colorado Springs I'll probably drive up to Cheyenne, WY and then back over to Idaho.

If anyone is interested in getting together for a few hours, a half day or the whole one, shoot me a PM. I'll probably need a phone number or some way to contact you in order to set things up. I can deviate from my TO trip since I don't have a set schedule or route. The FROM trip though will be more structured so I can make the three stops where my friends live.

I promise I won't return and hunt your spots!

Mike

Oh! And I like to eat sardines from a can while I'm taking my lunch break from detecting. Just thought I'd put that out there if it matters!
