Have a question about the Beachhunter ID

Gulf Huntress

New member
Does anyone use theirs in the surf? If so, how does it react to the salt water? Also, do you have trouble with the coil staying on bottom? Let me know thanks

I just bought a Beach Hunter ID a few month ago and I have taken it out to a few lakes to practice with. My arm got tired of holding the coil down because it is very buoyant. I took a one gallon freezer bag and put about two pounds of sand in it. I wrapped it around the rod just above the coil and duct taped it on. WOW! what a difference that made. I had to put a little more sand in until I got the right weight so that it barely floats at all. Now it is real comfortable to swing without tiring. About using it in the surf, I can't answer that question because I have only used it in lakes 3 times and found a few pennies and a toy metal airplane. Looking forward to summer swimming season here in Seattle to give it a work out.

Thanks for the info. One of the reasons I am looking into getting one is the weight, trying to find something that is light and will still get the job done. I have been using a Garrett's Seahunter Mark II for over a year now, I have the housing unit mounted to the stem and it is a bit heavy, if I waist mount it then I will have problems with the wiring, so either way I have to deal with weight. I think my husband has order one for me and I will check it out. Thanks again.
