After reading so many good things on the Golden

Congrats on the Golden! I am sure you will enjoy it. I saw your V for sale? I guess you are not gonna keep it? Just wondering,

I would like to hear about how you like the Golden, HH, Beale.

From what I understand the notch is similar to disc, except it only covers a small band so for instance you could set notch to knock out pull tabs but still get things below and above the conductivity of pulltabs. On the golden the notch can be switched between a narrow setting and one which is a bit wider. I considered going for a golden myself - looks like a great machine.
Can you post some pics of your finds please - would be great to see how you get on with it.
Congrats on the Golden! I am sure you will enjoy it. I saw your V for sale? I guess you are not gonna keep it? Just wondering,

I figured if she moved the ground balance out of whack it would be at her disadvantage, there are times when she is out with my detector and I can not be with her. The Vaquero would of been a great detector though I am sure. Thanks! Steve.

Gosh Ski,

Couldn't you go on a campaign to generate a bunch of clad to get your bride a Compadre?

Try a Saturday yardsale or craigslist to excess some things to pay for one...

It's very near a sure thing she'll be able to meet the cost of a Compadre, especially if both of you are working together.:twodetecting:

Teamwork is a great thing!

HH
I actually did order a Compadre, it isn't here yet. But there will be times that she will want to use the Golden & I will want to use the Compadre. My wife and I have been detecting together for over 15 years I am very lucky that she loves to detect as much as I do. Thanks! Steve.

BTW If anyone wants to check out the Golden I bought, here is the eBay item number Item number: 170205005320

SkiWiz, I think you will like the Golden. I have had good luck with it and use it more than the MXT. Let us know when you get it and let's see some of those finds! HH TonyTX

Use the golden until you believe what it tells you. Like all machines it lies on occasion, but more often than not the user (me included) just doesn't believe what it is trying to tell you... and you dig another piece of trash. :rage:

I meant to ask in my first post but forgot to - does the Golden uMax have the different tones in all metal mode or just in disc. mode. Thanks everyone for all your input. Steve.

I recall one target in particular with the Golden. This one gave several tones, the prominent one being that high tone. This wasnt the rolling tone of iron, but a mix of high and mid tones. Always retrieve the repeatable high tones.
Long story short, it was a large St. Christophers medallion, something like a pin back brooch, quite deep. I was expecting a crushed can from the depth and apparent size of the signal. It was quite nice and I currently have it on display.

"does the Golden uMax have the different tones in all metal mode or just in disc. mode."
No, the tones are part of the DISC filtering and AM takes a different signal path. All Metal has a single pitch tone, VCO output response.

My Golden uMax came in today, it is in great shape (can't tell it from brand new), so you know what that means - yup you got it, it is raining out. Never fails each time I get a new detector it rains. Weird because I can't remember the last time it has rained up here. You can bet that I will have it out in my yard as soon as the rain quits to test it on some coins/jewelry/etc. shucks if the rain doesn't quit I will put a plastic bag over it and try it out - they say I don't know enough to come in out of the rain anyways . I will let you know my thoughts on the Golden. Thanks! Steve.
