Haunted House:

Well-known member
Larry and I were out and about Sunday and taking the country roads home and came across this wonderful old building. This use to be a high school and then went to a grade school in the mid 1940's. Built in 1902 and with a HUGE lot 1/2 block wide by a whole block long. Now it's used for a haunted house. Yes, we got permission to hunt it. Some older kids were playing across the street at a very old playground area and we asked who owned it. Larry went up to the house with "card" in hand and the man that answered the door was very happy that Larry had asked and gave us the go ahead to hunt. All he asked is that if we found anything pertaining to the school, please let him have it. He was a Board Member of the Association that owns the building/property. We didn't have much time before the sun was setting, but Larry did find some good keepers. It was a very clean lot. NICE!! We went back to show what we had found and the man thanked us again and again for asking for permission and had said there's many days when he gets home from work and there will be someone detecting there and he chases them off because they didn't ask permission. THAT JUST BURNS ME UP! That's why our hobby has such a bad reputation. LET'S CHANGE IT FOR THE POSITIVE!!! Little by little we can do it! PLEASE!!!!! We are welcome to come back to the property anytime and that means a lot to us. Thanks for reading and let's try harder to change people's impression about our hobby. HH to all, Nancy

Agree 100%, and it does look haunted:clapping:

Hi
Nice post I could not agree more, and let us all make it a nice Day.

Nancy, I understand where you're coming from, but I think that most of us MDers would have assumed the property was 'public' since it was an old school house, apparently had no postings, and was not in current use.

I think I would have made that assumption. I suspect the other MDers he referred to running off were under the same impression. e.g. Public property is available for public use.

The owner might want to simply post private property signs. That would probably keep me away, or at least searching for the owner before hunting.

If I missed some indicator in your message that clued you into the fact that it was privately owner/administered, I apologize.

There was an old marquee that read "Haunted School with the hours, etc" near the side of the old school. Also there was brand new windows in the old building. You could tell someone was remodelling it. That's what gave it away of possibly being private property. We're headed back to the old place this weekend. Wish us luck and hope we don't get spooked. Believe me, while out in the lawn and looking toward that old thing sure makes you wonder. HH to all, Nancy

Always research we have parks here that one would think is public but are privately owned.

Wishing you both the best of luck; enjoy your posting. Just wish I had your drive and determination to find these old places....

Thanks everyone for the super comments. Larry and I plan on going there this weekend and getting our coils dirty. I found an updated picture of the old school taken back in the 60's??? It's the back of the building and they've removed the old bell tower. Wish us luck! HH to all, Nancy

Guess it would help if I attached the photo..........

Squeeze every goodie you can out of that site, here's wishing you luck!:beers:
