Your walking in the woods, maybe on the local trail way they have set out, and you stumble upon something odd.... a flipping graveyard. well by me if you follow the trail for long enough you will find an old graveyard on top of the hill in the middle of the woods. the newest grave stone i saw was with the year 1875 so it is an old place. i'll post pictures of the graveyard later. i had only heard about it til today when i actually saw it.

i had been out with the detector from 10 20 a.m. to about 5 30 p.m. and walked the entire time. very tiring and found basically nothing. only interesting thing was a spool of copper wiring from an old light. i did find a buckle as well but there's no way to tell how old its is.

anyone else go out today?

Two inches of new snow and now freezing rain. Nope. didn't go out today. (It's kinda creepy to stumble on an abandoned graveyard in the middle of the woods).

MrGee

well apparently a lot of people know about it, and it was once used a lot but still most of the grave stones were either broken or turned over and laying on the ground. definitely a weird site, especially because there were a lot of those red vine plants that have a lot of thorns on them kind of barracking the area around the grave yard. it did have a creepy feel to it no doubt about it.

MrGee, you are in the same boat as we are. Winter storm warning posted. Expecting anywhere from 1 to 3 inches and it won't hit 40 again until next wednesday ot thursday. Seriously sucks !! !!

i'm in the same boat as you guys, we're expecting 5 inches by Thursday morning. ugh i hate the snow, especially because Thursday is my next day off. but the gtax750 isn't holding up well and is picking up loose signals quite often. so i'm hopefully going to get the 250 soon.

Old abandoned cemeteries are very common and unfortunately most of them have been vandalized. In Indiana most counties (including my home county Madison) have Cemetery Commissions that locate and restore these historical treasures. I have attended meetings of our local Commission. These people are a wealth of knowledge of past history of the county and I plan on hopefully glean some of this info. IE where there are old cemeteries there were often old churches as well. The local Co mission also has plat maps of the county from well into last century. It is illegal in Indiana (as it should be) to dig in any cemetery so be careful in that area so you don't inadvertently break any laws. But the general area is a great place to hunt.

ya i wasn't planning on hunting inside of the cemetery, but thank you for the warning none the less

Can't say I've stumbled into one by accident, but I've checked out a few old ones
that were known, but very isolated or deserted. I like looking at old cemeteries so
it wouldn't bother me at all. My favorite headstones are the ones that have an
oval glass photo embedded in the headstone of the one below dirt napping.. :/
But you don't see a whole lot of those. Most I've seen were from around the
turn of the 20th century.. Late 1800's, early 1900's.

ya i enjoy old tombstones as well, i think i've seen one or two of them before, they are pretty cool to look at.
