Has anyone used the Whites Dual Field for.............

dry sand hunting?? Thinking of searching beaches that are hard hit by VLF detector users...............to see what they have left behind?? If the pulse is a depth monster as claimed,,,,,,,there should be good deep targets to locate. What control settings would be best for this type of search? Thanks for your replies.

Last Friday I bought a new DF and took it out twice. The first day I took it out and worked the high side of the beach (dry sand). Sucker goes deep.
I know this area is hunted hard with Minelabs and even some older Whites- PI's and others. I'm also needing to get a wider scoop because pinpointing is a challenge and a lot of time is spent digging. My shoulders are still sore.

Settings I used are Gain1-3 o'clock, pulse off, threshold barely audible but steady.

Hope this helps

If you are going to run the gain at 3 0'clock just move the pulse delay to 7 o'clock... won't lose depth but will quiet down the chatter a bit... PPing is a breeze with the DF... raise the coil a little bit...

Good advise Craig, thank you I'll try it.

The bad thing about the dry sand, is that dropped items can't naturally sink. They can drop a little as people walk over them, or as people dig in the sand but there is no surf action to continually bury deeper over time.

And this is a bad thing?

Dry sand hunting at The Beach with a PI can be Rewarding or Frustrating , It really depends how clean your Beach is.

Once you dig a Dozen or so 1 foot deep holes to find Ketchup wrappers, then it's time for the VLF with Discrimination, for dry sand hunting

Everyone has a different budget when it comes to detecting. If you can only afford one detector then you can certainly use a DF or any pulse on the dry sand. But if you can afford a VLF detector I think the hunt would be more enjoyable in the dry. Nothing beats a pulse in the wet. My Sovereign goes fairly deep in the dry. I can also hunt the wet sand with it. The good thing about beach detecting is the value of the finds. Re invest it back into another detector.

I use my dualfield in wet and dry sand. Also I use my M6 in dry sand.
The m6 works better in the dry. But the dualfield can handle both no problem.

I used my DF in dry for months before I bought a VLF second machine. It worked fine and you actually learn a lot digging all that trash at first. You will quickly develop the ability to size and tell wire targets as well as the dreaded hairpins. Hopefully, you will have more willpower than me though. Even when I am sure its trash I dig half the time, "Just in case." It has never paid off with the PI but I did get a ring with the MXT that was just a maybe penny signal. That find was actually the one that convinced me to get a Sov GT, I didnt like looking at the meter on the beach and it almost talked me out of a target that sounded okay.

works great for depth in the dry sand, but nothing really gets that deep in the dry sand. And if its hit hard by the VLFs then you will just be pulling your hair out the whole time because most targets you find will be bobby pins or nails that they skip right over, plus you don't have a depth meter to tell you that its at 12" or more which would be where your advantage is. though you have more depth, you don't know when you are using it.

The DF works fine on the dry but its savage amusement and really vlf/bbs/fbs/ territory, in the wet sand and water the lighter targets get washed away and only the heavier(usually better)targets are left, i have done the dry sanding at times when the tides are wrong and i only had an hour free, i repeat savage amusement

I guess it would be best to cherry pick only the best sounding signals in the "dry"...............if it's not just right...... walk on to the next target, might be something to this method??
