...............how good is it? Does it need to be ground balanced in the coin mode? I was told it is turn on and go. Only needs ground balancing in the prospecting mode....is this true? Tell me about your experiences with this unit as a " coin/ring" hunter. Thanks.

It is turn on and go and only needs GB should you choose to use it and is great for coinshooting and such.. For hunting coins and such it's a simple procedure. It's Garrett's most veratile detector. Just set it on the prersets ( especially auto tuning ) to start out with and go. The discriminate mode has automatic GB. Since the coil is so sensitive you should scan with it two inches of the ground. Wen pinpointing switch to all metal or TR and no motion is required to maimtain a signal.

I assembled mine last nite, and was really impressed with the air tests. But.....the real test is in the field. I will be playing with mine for the next little while and will be posting my finds.

I've wanted to try one for quite a while. I think the TR mode is a real bonus as it could help pull out coins in trashy areas. I've heard the smaller coil can grab coins in that situation too.

Keep us posted as I'm very interested in the results!

Thanks!

You might check with Melinda to see if they have any 4.5 coils left. They only had two and Mary sent me one of them. THe other one may still be there.
