Has anyone used a sound amplifier on a X-70 ?

I had to modify my head phones to match the way ML has their ground in their phone jack and I have an amplifier but it will have to be modified also to work properly in the X-70 jack. I wounder if the amplifier will help with the weak threshold sounds.

You should be able to crank out some extremely loud threshold tone without modifying anything.

Fit a signal booster ,run with no threshold and crank up your sensitivity to the max. and prepare to dig DEEP targets!
Peter.

Do you suffer from a hearing impairment? Because I have to turn my sound down a little as it drives me a little nuts. Cleaning out your ears helps too :twodetecting:

By turning down your threshold you are losing sensitivity to faint targets. You need the threshold just bubbling to pull in those faint targets. I have got a depthmaster signal booster which had a bad connection but still works after playing around with it there is no advantage using a booster.

if not the only threshold based detector that does not benefit with the use of a signal booster to bring the threshold up so very weak signals and wavers can be made out. The sound Minelab has produced on these units is far and away the most pleasant audio I have ever heard from a detector, with full control and hightened options given. I can see where the hearing impaired would benefit though.

I have tried five different enhancers on them Steve and none better the original tone and the control you have on them.

A signal amp and speaker combo I will be finished setting up this week is the go for me at the moment, nice crisp sound but I have to mount them better, gives the sweaty ears a rest, but only in far away loner spots.

While for years many detectorists, and I believe quite wrongly too, have run their VLF's (PI's as well) with far too low a threshold when detecting. The old 'just a mosquito buzzing' technique is a sure way to miss signals, especially in anything but the mildest of quiet ground. The correct way to run threshold is to the point of unwavering solidness matched to the ground that is being detected.

Thanks for all of the input guys. I do have some hearing problems and I wear hearing aids but I can still hear the weak threshold ok. I built my own amplifier several years ago and I had to modify it to work on ML.I have tried it with the threshold down, gain up and with my headphones adjusted so as not to blow my head off on loud targets. I can hear a 1.5 gm nugget at 7 inches (air test) in the prospect mode. As soon as the snow melts and the ground thaws out I will bury some targets and give it the real test.

Goodluck mate I hope all goes well and we want to see some photo's of those nuggets you find.
Cheers!
