I did some testing with my DFX and found the following.
Setup was MixMode, Stock Coil, AC sen 68, DC 30.
In search mode current draw was 60ma
Target Vol 56 78ma
Target Vol 93 93ma
Backlight max 120ma
Changing other settings resulted in min change to current draw.
Taking a average of 70ma a 2500ma battery pack should last 35hours.
The older and number of recharges this time will be shorter.
Energizer NiHH AA 2500ma can be recharged 500 times.
Fast charging will shorten the life cycles. Slow charging gives longer life.
Batterys less than 2100ma can ber recharged up to 1000 times.
Still the 2500ma batterys can be found for about $2 each in packs of 8.
Some NiMH charges come with car adaptors to charge batterys from a 12V source.
Note on Volumn: I read on one of the forums the user should trun the volumn
to max and use the volumn controls on the headphone to control the sound level. This will shorten battery run time.
You should set the volumn this way.
Turn the headset volumn all the way up.
Set MD vol when on target a little higer than you like.
Turn down the headset control to the volumn you like.
Now set the threshold sound to as low as you can still hear it.
This will allow you to still trun up the headset when needed to hear faint signals.
This will save battery run time.
