Has anyone tried this?....

I had heard that the newer motion machines had adjusted for the metal screw and nut on the coil, so for all these years I never fooled with my Silver umax. Since my Royal Sabre was the older machine, I tried it and found some improvement. Finally, today I could resist the urge no longer and changed mine on the Silver. I noticed that the nails and iron gave more of a noticeable click, giving me the idea that I reduced the masking somewhat-also, tiny objects like small brads and teeny charms came in clearer, and the smallest pieces of foil "clicked" a bit more. Finally, the depth seemed better, although the 6-7" coins were more like a whisper.

So, did you put a metal one on or replace it with nylon? I always replaced mine with nylon. I don't know if it made a difference but I slept better knowing that I had done it. :)

Sorry, the sometimers slipped in. I meant to say I replaced it with the nylon. Seems like it is somewhat noticeable in an increased performance in the masking category as far as getting somewhat closer to the iron category. I was hoping to increase my chances for small gold rings in the tot lots. A couple of pennies in the 6" range gave a soft signal in several I had already searched, albeit with other machines.

There must be something to it because I believe all the manufacturers have gone to nylon bolts and nuts in the coil mounting. I have a Cibola with the metal bolt, will replace it with nylon or isoplast and see if I can tell any difference.

I would think that since the top of coil is capable of receiving signals also the same as the bottom that the metal one would definitely be a problem.have owned several makes of detectors over the yrs and all have had a plastic bolt/nut to secure coil.yrs ago I once I got a small coil for a BH202 and the nut was a plastic covered metal so I just used the old one.
