Has anyone tried the?

Has anyone tried the 505 or 705 on a saltwater beach? I want to know if the 705 will perform that much better because it has a beach mode and ground tracking. Is it worth the extra $180?

I have used the xterra 70 and in dry sand it does really good but in wet sand t was not good at all.

I'm hoping the 705 is better in the wet sand being that it has beach and GB tracking.

The 70 has beach tracking just like 705 . It helps a little . But the xterras just do not do well in wet sand. Fresh water they do great but not salt water.

Bummer 😣now I really don't know what l detector to get that I can afford.

Ask the sponsors about the Minelab Safari, I think they should work ok in wet saltwater sand.

I'd like some more info on this also.
I'll offer my limited experience w the 705 on the beach.

Does really well in dry sand. Can perform sufficiently in wet sand (ie.-like where the water is receding as the tide drops) Foil bits sound like good targets and will make you crazy.
Prepare for lots of falsing-especially in wet sand. The key in wet sand is any repeatable signal. I turn my earphone volume down -a few numbers-searching the wet sand. I have only done beach MDing several times since I got the 705. I use the 10.5" 18.75 coil. I read a recent post where someone favored the 10.5 705 coil.
I use my 705 because- I can't afford another MD after buying the 705 and 4 coils. And it has a beach mode. The more I read -the more it becomes apparent that there are better MD's for saltwater beaches. However-beach MDing represents only -less than 10%- of my intended use, so I wanted to try and get the most of my MD.
Found 0 gold so far. But in dry sand I have pulled penny's and dimes from 8-9". One quarter from 10". also watches, costume jewelry FOIL and various metals.
From wet sand- many coins, bits of wire & metal and FOIL up to 8". Found a cell phone over 1 foot -the hole was full of water.
I search in all metal. I toggle to Disc 2 many times. In Disc 2-foil will usually Disc out (as would gold) and small bits of iron-BUT -all coins, copper bits and other targets still give a good-REPEATABLE signal.
These results were from NJ, DE & MD beaches. Some are dark from black sand. Most have a lot of macro iron also.
I was pleased with the results. It's my only beach option at this time-so I'd welcome any extra input for beach use on this thread.
I kept the sensitivity 20 or above-it helped. If you focus on REPEATABLE signals, thru the falsing, you will have some success.

Thanks dirt angler. Looks like a great detector but can't afford it right now. Thanks for that great info GTzer. I'm hoping it would do ok here in Miami, Fl being that there is no black sand what so ever!

I think that you could do very well in that part of FL. beaches are a mix of sand and crushed coquina. Speaking of which- if you know of any places where the hard coquina reaches the surface-check it carefully. There are pockets that catch and retain metal.
Watch the little waves by the surf line.

Hi :ausflag:

Yes IMHO $180 for tracking + beach is well worth it
you also get 4 programs , a backlight and gold prospecting mode (prospecting mode is also good on the beach)

a DD coil for the beach is also a good idea on the beaches where I live
Check out which ones are waterproof if you intend on dunking them....not too many of the Minelab coils can be submerged.
Coiltek 15" WOT coils (in 3 frequencies ...3, 7.5, 18.75 KHZ) are brilliant on the beach and are DD and fully waterproof....their larger size covers more ground too
a simple cord around your neck to stop you dropping your machine in the water is also worth thinking about to protect the control panel

I have found lots of gold, silver and coins at beaches here in Australia...wet and dry
The best tip for the wet sand I can give you is to Beach mode , Noise cancel , Tracking On , and Sensitivity backed off until the XT705 is nice and stable
Only a stable machine will give you the best results.
A high Sensitivity setting is not the only ingredient to depth...stability is what you are after
If you are falsing - adjust your machines Sens back down until it is stable and / or slow down your swing
I run Sens. at around 18 where i live on the wet sand and up to 28 on the dry.

Best of luck

Great points Terra. I think I will save up for the 705. I don't think I will have a problem being that here in miami we have beautiful white sand.
