Has anyone tried new canadian coins with the Coinstrike?

Haven't taken mine out hunting yet, but judging by 'on ground' results, I might have a problem. The new stuff (quarters, dimes, nickles) seems to read somewhere around -30. Not good. maybe it's different in the ground. ..Willy.

Hi Willy,

I got a Canadian dime in my change a while back. I dropped it in my treasure chest because it was a foreign coin (to me). Last night while I was rummaging through the chest trying to decide what rings I might want to send the family for Christmas presents this year I noticed that the Canadian dime was stuck to one of the magnets I keep in there. Sticks pretty good so I expect it will give an iron reading of some sort. I'll have to check it out tonight.

and the new Canuck coins are a major PITA with different detectors. On one pass they read silver, then iron, and a slight angle change of coil, they vary again. They act like the falsing of steel flat washers.

On some machines they average down around small foil dipping to slightly iron, acting like small gold. In differently mineralised ground I can see where you could be made crazy by these things. I've hit coin drops with these coins before and it just leaves you shaking your head after you've swung over them a few times. And once the outer clad is nicked and the salt gets to the steel, it can get really bizarre.

Was sorting through some change a while back with a magnet and found out that a brand new Canadian penny will stick to a magnet too. Also found that our new dimes are almost invisible to many detectors. ..Willy.

I keep a rare earth magnet in my pocket to keep my coins in one spot. Some pennies and nickles stick, some don't. Most of the rest of our modern coinage does stick.

I am looking to buy an Excel to pad out my machinery, I hunt with a Vaquero these days. I am wondering if any Canadian hunters could give feedback on their views of using the Excel in the great white north? I just stumbled across the Excel the other day as a possible contender as a second unit. I didn't realise that it was as light as it is.

The Vaquero works very well on our coinage as does the treasure ace 250. The CZ5 that I used to hunt with worked well on Canadian coinage in salt mode.

Thanks in advance.
