Has anyone tried a FM transmitter and radio headphones for wireless solution?

I have this Belkin FM transmitter that I use for my ipod to play in my car's stereo through a FM band... it should be possible to plug it in the detector and broadcast the signal to a pair of headphones with a radio built in. Any thoughts why this would or would not work? I have yet to find my portable radio which I know is sitting in a box somewhere in my garage... but I might try this setup to see if I can achieve the wireless freedom. The only problem I foresee is finding a frequency that's not being used by some radio station (here is the city at least)

more batteries youll have to carry with you,
i have a friend whos testing a whites that has wireless headphones
and he uses allot of batteries..

I tried it on my Explorer first and it worked fair with the low tones distorted, next I tried it on my Sovereign and it was bad as the tones were all distorted so you couldnt tell one thing from another.. Cant remember the the name on the Transmitter, but the walkman was a Sony I used,

A friend of a friend had a V3 but quickly sold it for various reasons, one of which was that he was picking up a radio station in the headphones. I guess he didn't like that style of music so the V3 had to go.
