Has anyone had any good finds in small creeks?

I am considering hitting several small creeks, about 10' wide, and am curious if anyone has found cool stuff in this type of location. I know of several creeks near me. One had a plantation home about 100 yards away and surely they used the creek alot in the mid 1800's. The other spot is an old grist mill dam where the dam has broke. I have wondered about hunting not only the area behind the dam that was the pond, but also the stream that comes out of the dam. Bodies of water (ponds and streams) surely were magnets back in the 1800's when water was a premium. Thanks for any experiences you can share.

Yep...old creeks....especially where they havnt moved out of the creek bed for a long time, like downstream from an old RR trestle, or a bridge...I found one last year, near the blueberry fields, where all the migrant farm workers go for a swim of an evening to cool off...I pulled all sorts of clad and sinkers and even mexican coins out of there...that old grist mill seems like a good place to start! Both above and below the dam...and maybe where the bank used to be when the dam was there?
I look at the aerial satellite maps of old town, find the creek that passes through, then see where the RR trestle is, or the oldest bridge, and thats where the swimming hole was...theres generally a lot of glass and trash down in these spots though...also, the nearest water to an old school is good, all those kids went right to the water for a swim...
Up on "Todays Finds" forum, Floyd just posted about a creek he hunted that went through an old town...have a look..

What would you guys think about a tiny creek in the woods that looks like it could have been a nicer stream many decades ago. Its near an area of long gone old farms that were covered by modern 1970's schools. Its small, rocky, and between a rocky hillside and a very rocky ridge line in over grown woods.

I say hunt everything that looks and feels good, lol. That sounds like places where folks might have picnicked, camped, watered horses or .......who knows what all?
