Has anyone from California used the saltwater program in the LA beaches?

I haven't had a chance to down to the Los Angeles area to hunt some of the beaches with the ctx. I've used other detectors and most worked ok but they have some problems with the saltwater and or blacksand you have to turn down your sensetivity. My p.i.worked great but had to modify it by increasing the sat speed capacitor so I don't get that high threshold sound when waves come in. I just want to know before I go down there what to expect.

Hey Denny, I don't have the CTX yet but I would think it would work as good or better than the explorers or an E-Trac. For what ever reason I do better with my Explorer 2 on the wet sand at the beach. I hunt mostly Santa Monica Beaches. I have my Explorer 2 setup with my Wot or Sunray 12.5" coil and use it strictly for the beach. My SE and E-Trac work well on the beaches too.

If I had the CTX and was working Santa monica or Zuma I would run zero discrimination in ferrous/multi tone mode and dig any thing that didn't grunt iron. Shoot! When targets in the wet sand are few and far in between I even dig the iron hits. Also I'm usually in manual sensitivity set between 19 and 21 (depending on where I am on the beach). On some days when the detector gets too unstable I switch to auto sensitivity but I'm in manual most of the time.

I'm interested in how well the CTX works on the wet sand so keep us posted. Say hi to Paul for me:detecting:

My buddy ran his yesterday here on the east coast. He told me he ran it manual 26 and it never made a peep of noise. I don't think that saltwater is an issue sice the update. There is black sand where we were too.

Hi Randy, It's been while since we last spoke. Thanks for the info. I'm going to run it open window, with sens at 22 like the explorer to start. There are no ferrous sounds anymore but they have a ferrous mode which I will use on the dry sand.

I'll keep you posted and tell Paul you said hi.
