Has anyone every known lightning to cause falseing?

Never stayed around long enough to find out ...
But if any has ...does it false ??? or could it ???

Anytime you are even in visual site of lightning, you are in danger of getting struck. Especially with a detector. A detector will more that likely pull the current from a storm and if that happens say goodbye. Rick (ND) was detecting and I was with but I turned my detector off when I heard thunder and then seen lightning in the distance. He told me that when he was detecting, all of a sudden he felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up and he knew he better turn his detector off before something bad was about to happen. Lightning Storms are actually great for our hobby. Next time a Lightning Storm goes thru an area which you live in, go to a good detecting spot of yours that isn't too far away and detect it once. Keep in mind that the thunder and lightning is way off in the distance and not close by. You will be suprised the depth you will get and all the new readings you will come across after an electrical storm. In fact, after this small storm went thru the area me and Rick were detecting, he had to leave but I stayed and as soon as I started detecting again, I was hitting more old coins and this was in the same area I just previously went thru. The Lightning amplified or charged all the metallic objects in the ground and made them seem bigger or give a better response signal on coins and other items. I couldn't believe the difference. That is the only good part of a Lightning Storm and I urge you to never detect in one or you are definetly asking to get struck by a lightning bolt. Keep safe and Good Luck and HH.

Sensitive electrical instrument?
Lighting?
Bad mix.

The storms will end here in about an hour. And I am off to play in the mud. Seeing I covered most of it all ready it will be neat to see if other objects are under what I have found all ready. thanks for the after storm advice.

Ps. Dennis from Wi- Was that you early this morning just east of Burlington in the lake park?

jimb se wi

James you are completely right.

Lighting can be 10 miles away and units still false and lightning can strike you from 5-7 miles away.

I live in Florida which is lightning capital of the US and when I hear thunder or see a flash I turn my unit off and head for cover.

For those of you that choose to keep going... you will eventually be adding credence to Darwin's Theory of Natural Selection...(you can't fix stupid!)
