...the "Target Buddy"?
It's a plug cutter that's a little different than I've seen before and I was just wondering if anyone has used it; I'm looking for some feedback on it's durability and functionality; and is it better or worse than others?

I havent seen this one but I have seen the 2 12 inches around one that I feel is too small even with the periscope pinpointer (possable damage to target as well as too small of a hole to get your hand into). I did some tinkering with different size tubeing and came up with 3 inches as the ideal size. 4 inches around IMO is too big and requires a great deal of enegery to plant in the ground (and I'm a muscular guy...BTW..."I did not grope that girl" cal governer!!!) Also as for depth, the ideal depth is aprox 5 or 6 inches depending on soil type as friction will preclude you from removing the plug from the plugger. IN my opinion, pluggers should be required as they make the finished product look much better the even the most miticulus digger out there (FACT). We just lost our very old central park (schenectady) due to sloppy digging by lazy hunters. Also, It blows my mind to see detectorists digging on a lawn without a cloth or something to put the dirt on, or hunters on the beach with no garbage container (nail pouch)...like there so good that they never dig a bad target. Oh yea, for the anal retentive guys that say" what about the north south orentation of the plug..the grass will do better if its returned to the same posistion" Place a golf tee with an arrow in the plug before you dig!!

I ordered one from them last week. I'm still waiting on an order confirmation so I'm not sure when I'll get it. Not very good service so far. I hope the product is better than the service. It looks like a good product to me. I've been looking for a coring tool with a larger diameter (the Minelab needs it ). I hope it's not too hard to push into the ground because of the larger diameter

I'd like to know how the ordering went and a rating of the overall performance. It looks like it will work well, I just want to make sure its sturdy enough because I have clay-like soil around here.

I just noticed that even though it says on the first page of the web site "call or email for more information", there's no phone number at all.
Futzman, you mentioned poor service so far. Have they not been replying to emails? Just curious.

They have a link where you can pay through Paypal. However, when I went to pay with Paypal, it said they were not "registered" and would be sent information on how to register. I paid anyway (taking a risk) then sent an email to the address they have in Paypal. I have not heard back from them. I'm going to try to call them today, and I'll let you know what I find out. I like the way the gizmo looks, so I hope I can get one to try out.

Well, there's no telephone number on their web site, and I just got an email from Paypal that my payment to them was "unclaimed". I cancelled the payment so it looks like I won't be buying a "Target Buddy" afterall. I don't really like sending money through the mail to a vendor who does not list a telephone number.

Interesting, and kind of messed up too, because it looked good.
Maybe I'll take a picture of it down to the local metal shop and see how much they'd charge to build something similar.
I sent an email to the business/individual too.

A while back I read a post somewhere that Exhaust Pipe extensions available in auto parts stores are good for home making one of these.

I've been reading this thread and was wondering if anyone has ever tried using one of those tools thats used to make the holes on golf course greens. They move the holes every so often, they're big holes(4 or 5in),and you can't see where they were moved from.Just a thought!! Bob

I checked into that a while ago. I think they're 4" holes. From what I saw, however, the plugger is pretty cumbersome and quite costly.

Oh well, back to the screwdriver!! Bob

I made my own. I e-mailed them this spring and they wanted $80+ $30, to ship to Alaska.
The first one I made is Alittle over 3"wide, worked good accept on deeper targets,(hard to get hand in it). I'm making a bigger one now. They are stianless steel so they hold up real good. They are a little heavy though.
They dont work in clay type ground very good, cant get the plug out.
HH Burnie (AK)

Hey Burnie, did you model it just like the 'Target Buddy', or is it different at all? (Besides being stainless instead of aluminum).

Its kinda the same. Handle is differant and I put notches on the edges so it cuts better.
Aluminum wont hold up ,(to soft),in rocky ground.
HH Burnie

just put a caucking gun on the end and you can get the plug out real easy.
