I have done this 3 times, and each time I found not only common coins, but foreign coins, medallions and some older ones. I even found an older silver plated cigarette case. If you never have hunted this type of location, try it. You might be surprised.
Made my wish - the river to dry up a drop of over 20' of water so I can detect there.
So far my money is still down under all the water. Some day...
I guess I have gone to the wrong bridges. Watches, sunglasses, coins and a few rings have been found. The rivers I have detected had to have a cubic feet/second flow rate below 140 which usually happened when the fish count was in progress, long after the tubers left the area. At that point it was not life threatening to be in the water swinging a detector and trying to recover a target. All is great fun to enjoy for the day.
I guess I'm going blind, didn't see the bridge part. I purchased the at pro for this very reason. unfortunately I didn't have a submersible probe and it was a real pain. Found some modern coins and junk. Bought a new water pinpointer but it's been raining so the creek is back up, can't wait to get back to it.
Yea I need to get into more water hunting. Thanks John, you just "jogged" my memory about a very small bridge location I need to try. I need to be careful at this location as it is isolated. It is an old dirt road into a long forgotten community. Its been hit hard and not much left to be desired. However, I wonder how many people have thought to run their machine in the brook ?
John, I've tried hunting a stream below a bridge but found it very frustrating. The bottom of the stream was rocky and trying to retrieve targets was, to say the least, challenging. That and the possibility of cracking my coil on the rocks made me chock it up to a lost cause and I haven't tried since. But, I did make a digging tool with one end for moving rocks and the other end with a magnet (so I can retrieve the guns thrown from the bridge, LOL).
