Thinking about just up and doing it..cabin fever....taking a hacksaw and a file, shouldnt take more than 15minutes...they catch all sorts of wet grass and sand and snow, and make it especially tough to swing the coil in the water...streamlining my 70 today...

dont know if any wires run through them (I doubt it)....or if there were just intended as supports during the molding and assembly process?

Hopefully, one of you has tried it, or Dave J is online monitoring us to keep us in line.....And no, I have not yet been drinking today!:buds:

How about just making a solid coil cover for it?--Shouldn't take more than several hours!---I haven't been drinking either!!!-----I agree with you, those "halibut coil" fins are a pain--other than that & the fact of where the rod affixes to the back--it's a great coil.---Oh yeah--the "ears" are too thin also & the rod which you can't use washers on grinds grooves into those ears--but fast!---Other than those minor inconveniences--it's a great coil!-------What was it we were talking about Mud???:)

Mud, you really do seriously live for this stuff, or should i say you have too much time on your hands? Just kidding, but honestly that is some thought, youd be on to something. Looking at the coil they seem a tad superfluous. CO

You are right about those ears! I had a groove nearly worn through the both of them! I filed a little off the offending portion of the main rod so the Orings stuck out a little bit...but I think I'm gonna need to epoxy up some reinforcements or those ears are gonna break off real soon! Maybe a portion of a fin will work as a support?

Well, boys, I did not cut the fins off yet...did the cable job, and that took all my creativity out of me for one day! Maybe tomorrow?

My only concern about cutting the fins off is that it might allow the coil to flex ever so slightly allowing the coil to become erratic when sweeping it.

Just a thought...

How about just filling it in with JB weld to make it a solid coil?
