Has anyone ever climb down the well?

MR.SCOTT

New member
I'm hunting this old house site.witch has o hand dug well that is dry now. I keep think it a great place to check out,( you know the whole wishing well thing).
It is maybe 15' deep and lined with field stone and mortar. anyone ever tried this? :goodnight:

Mr. Scott,
I know there are people that climb down old outhouse holes! If the well walls are lined then I guess a collapse would not be probable, but......Good luck to ya sir:garrett:

Unless they use it to dump things in I can't see being to much in those wells.
If you do tackle it be careful and have someone there to help ..

I've got a few wells in my area that I'm too Chicken  to dive down in. I wonder if some type of small clam shell bucket has been made for cleaning out wells? Could be a good investment?

Wells are a great place to find items; people would dump their unwanted items that wouldn't affect the water quality in them. Good bottles and relics have come from wells, especially if used by soldiers.

Old wells, even if lined, are still dangerous, so safety first. Most wells where I'm from were dug deeper, so a 15 footer should be fairly safe, but make sure others are there to assist. I know a guy who explores old wells after inspecting them for structural safety and actually rents a tow-truck to have a buddy lower him down on the towline. That way if careful you don't come in contact with the sides and have a secure way down (and up).

Be careful and best of luck. There's almost always stuff of some sort at the bottom.

Lets hope it doesn't end up being an episode on CSI..... They hid "other" things in wells too if you catch my drift..:surprised:
