Has anyone done this to the Beach Brute?

Sand Scoop

New member
I have a Beach brute i bought from Kellyco. Its a well made aluminum scoop with one exception. When I get into areas where there is a hard shell bottom and especially a rocky bottom the lip of the scoop bends. Every night I get home I gota pound it back in shape. I wanted to know if anyone had someone fabricate a stainless lip that can be bolted or riveted to the inside of the lip to give it strength and keep from bending. I think I going to take the cheap way out and try this If it doesn't work I guess I'll sell some Gold so I can come up with $200.00 for a good stainless.Probably the one advertised on here.

This hasn't happened to me, but I bought my Beach Brute 2 at Kellyco, and it came with the bottom lip bent out of shape already. Don't know what happened there? Is yours a Beach Brute 2 or an older one?

This happens to me ALL of the time...Beach Brute II .. I've also just noticed that On the top portion of the Basket..The weld has broken too... My scoop is just a few months old...
I too am thinking of having a lip welded on to it... Or better yet I may just buy a Nuttal scoop and be done with the Problems...

The one I have must be the older one. Looking at their web site the one they show breaks down into 2 parts, mine doesn't. I like the scoop overall its just the pounding out the lip after a day at the beach+ it makes it a lot harder digging after it gets that way..I'm also looking at the Nuttal if theres no good fix for this.

Hmm, if that is the case then I am sticking with stainless steel. Someone a while back told me to get steel instead of aluminum as it goes into the sand better because of the weight and the metal is stronger.

Hello,

I am not sure what happened with it, but call me toll free at 800-898-6673 and ask for Tony and I will take care of it for you. The Beach Brute is made by Reily. Sounds like we need to get you into a Stainless Steel scoop instead.

Here's a shot of Where the Weld has broken ... and the Lip... which has to be reshaped after every couple of hunts..

Mine has held up real well over the summer, built like a tank and clears super fast. I like the SS lip as it keeps the scoop from being beat up. Can always replace the lip if needed

Ask Gulf Hunter what he uses. He uses (as I do) an all alum. scoop. from http://www.proscoops.com/ And it will never do that. it is hand made and in my( and allot of other hunters opinion) it really is the best. Just trying to give some advice.S/S is heavy

EZrider, Did your scoop come with the stainless lip or did you add it. I noticed that the lip is pop riveted.Have you had any problems with them loosening or breaking?

No problems at all, it came that way when i bought it. Ive dug into some really hard shell with it.

stainless is a lttle heavier, but i believe its much stronger.

i jerked these out of a lake bottom that is really dense clay/marl thats why they broke to begin with. they go on end of pvc tube and screwed down into bottom and used to anchor boats.these suckers hold onto the bottom! i dug down far enough to hook top with scoop and jerked them out with absolutely no damage to scoop edge.

so i deal with the extra weight, just my 2 cents worth.

I just noticed today mine has a crack in the same place. Just behind the welded area.

Looks like the Beach Brute has a weakness there. That is one that I will be staying away from.
