Has Anyone Done an ATP salt beach test...

comparing the depth of the ATP to other beach machines on gold rings in wet salt sand? The W&E Treasures ATP field test posted on this forum, tells of 2 nice gold rings found on salt beaches with the ATP! It mentions running high sensitivity with manual GB adjustments in the wet salt sand. My ATP seems very sensitive to gold range targets, even when sensitivity is turned down. Yet some do not see the ATP as a good beach machine. Perhaps they do not know how to adjust it? I have not had a chance to compare ATP side by side with my SOV XS on a salt beach, but in my tough ground test garden the ATP hits just as hard as the Sovereign! Has anyone tested what sort of depth one can expect with the ATP on average wet sand beaches? I would not mind some depth loss using ATP over other known beach machines, but not if it 50%. I'm also wondering if the smaller ATP DD coil might handle the wet salt even better?

I buried a dime 8 '' in wet sand on the beach and then packed the sand over it. My AT Pro detected it with no problem even though the signal was broken. Zero Mode- High Sensitivity-Auto Ground Balance.

Alot of the depth, or lack there of, will depend on the amount of mineralization in the sand in conjunction with the salt water (ie..amount of wetness of the sand). That's why people get varying results with same machine in different locations. Of course, properly setting up the machine to the location is critical. There is no standard set of settings.

The first day out with mine and the first target, a 10K men's ring with 3 small diamonds in dry sand about 10in deep.....very loud sig.....My machine is a keeper with no bad habits

TerraDigger speaks the truth ......Every beach has a different salt/mineral content ......You can GB the AT Pro on some saltwater beaches , and some you can't .......When you ARE able to G.B. the AT Pro you will be GB'ing in the lower numbers ......10-15 is very common on a couple of my beaches ....I almost NEVER Atuo GB .....It just doesn't seem to work as well as a manual GB .....Keep in mind that when you hit the dry sand you will have to GB all over again as the mineral content is much different in the dry sand .....Jim

Interesting. On my local beach the same numbers work in the wet sand, wading 0 to 2 and the dry sand usually comes in around 18. Manual adjustment works best.

Sailorman,
Must be the differences in mineral content from beach to beach as I said earlier .....I have to re-GB my CZ's going from wet salt sand to dry sand also on the same beach .......Jim

Jim as you know not a whole lot of detectors will go from wet to dry sand without adjusting the gb.

Hi Neil ,
The only ones I know that can do it are the multi freq machines .......... This is part of the reason they are so popular at the beach ..... but you knew that .....Jim
