Has anyone attempted to send in 'mutilated' coins aka zinc pennies since they revamped the whole process ?

I did pretty good back in the old days since Philly mint is next door The new process seemed to be very complicated. it appeared you had to be
a business and get prior approval. Been saving my corroded pennies waiting for the new program. i have 6 beach pails full !!!!

TIA

It’s just not worth it. Shipping, gas, time.. They go into the trash or with scrap iron pile. Money well spent not caring.

Could find someone who melts metals down locally? They would just have to add more copper to make a decent brass alloy. With the popularity of home forges in the last few years, more people have them and use them as a hobby.
They might be willing to pay and pick up local. Especially if you have a decent amount. Advertise in some of the sap and sell places. Just a thought.

I still run mine through the tumbler with the copper pennies just so they will go through a coin machine. You can check online which Coinstar machines issue coupons for which vendors and then choose where to take them to get the full value of the acceptable ones at the vendor of your choice. I use one that gives me an Amazon credit. I let the machine decide which are acceptable after two runs through it and then just leave the rejects in the coin reject pocket for some kids or coin hunters to come and get excited about the cache they found. If they want to try to use them at the register or get face value for them it is a decision that's up to them.:)

The ones I have are VERY crusty. If tumbled they may just disintegrate !!!! Postage is not a big issue as I live close to Philly.
I remember using a flat rate box which you can ship up to 70 pounds. I netted between $80-90. If you think of all the time spent
Digging them, at least I get my battery money back !!!! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Never knew home forges were very popular. I dont think in my neck of the woods, Jersey Shore, there would be a demand. I did sell my lead to a guy who re-cast and made new fishing weights. However, He said he'd never buy salt water weights again as there was tons of smoke and too much 'crap' left over !!!!

But its a thought ...

Thx,

Devil Forge became very popular around 5 years ago. People just wanting to cast things or stack ingots. I pour my own coins and stack ingots.
Check out Artbyadrock or Bickstack D casting. Neither are local, but it will give you an idea of how to reach out to people that may be local.
