HAS ANYBODY OUT THERE USED THE HUGE EXCELERATOR II COIL

on their Explorer? I recently came into posession of the HUGE (almost 17" diameter) Excelerator II and would like to hear some feedback on this coil. I intend to go beach hunting with my XS in the near future, and I was wondering how the Excelerator II performs vs the standard 10" Explorer XS coil at the beach (or on regular turf, like parks etc). The coil is really big and I wonder if it is unwieldy to use. Does it perform so good that it is well worth it to put up with its size? Any info will be greatly appreciated! Thanks! ~Larry~

Between 15 and 11 when you are on wet sand so the detector does not have to deal with the higher mineralization.

but like JW said ... lower sens will surely come into play but I have used this coil with a lot of success (and a shoulder strap) over the years ... it's super deep and covers a bunch of ground quickly ... but it doesn't like the soupy wet sand like many large coils .... just to much of a foot print to deal with on the wet salt sand.

It will pinpoint better than most large coils too .... once you get to know it's traits.

I haven't tried the 17" but I have the 15" x 12" and have used it with great success on the beaches of Florida. Mineralization is not a problem with these coils. Obviously, in trashy areas, they prove to be a problem. We happened onto a site that was very trashy and the explorer just wouldn't settle down. Drove me crazy and finally had to re-locate. I need to buy a good pin pointer 5" coil for those trashy areas. Any suggestions?
