Ground balanced a preset to their native soil?

Tesoro says if you send a soil sample, they will GB your unit to that soil. Makes me think that all Tesoro's have a potentiometer that you can turn and GB it yourself. I know the Whites Classics have that, because Mr Bill will add the dial for you, voids the warranty though.

Would anyone admit doing something like this on their unit? Or know if it can be done?

A couple of Golden Sabre II's and a Silver Sabre a few years ago, and a Golden uMax I currently have. The ground here is virtually mineral free and every preset ground balance detector I've had was preset way too positive, saw no reason to send them to Tesoro for what might be a hit or miss ground balancing, even if a soil sample was sent. The GS II's and SS have a 100 K ground balance pot at the right rear of the board, that's looking at the board with the face plate toward you, and the Golden has a small 50 K ground balance pot pretty much in the center of the board. Golden GB pot is shown in the red circle in the photo.

If I check my Deleon and there is two pots, I hope the circuit board has some ID on it other than a pot number. I would assume the second pot was "threshold" tone.

Never opened up the Tesoro yet. Your info is much appreciated, JB.

is probably the notch width. At least that was the case on my Pantera. Mark it before you mess with it too much, so that you can return it to its orginal settings, if you need to.

The second pot moves the notch and audio tones up or down the conductivity range, depending on which way it's turned. When I got the Golden both the notch and audio tones were out of whack. A dime or quarter would give a mix of the two highest tones instead of a clean high tone, and both notch modes were lower in the conductivity range than they should have been(the wide notch mode wouldn't reject a zinc cent). And, as I said in the other post, the ground balance was way too positive so I opened it up and adjusted both pots. A word of caution. The pots don't have to be moved very much to make a big difference, so if anyone decides to adjust the ground balance or tonal/notch range go slow and adjust the pots in small increments.

Many people move the controls to the front panel by replacing them with micro pots of the same rating. Doing this will likely void your warranty, though, so be warned. Ditto for opening 'er up and making adjustments.
