harness button or lapel badge ?

Ok, so I've gotten some good response w/ two possible answers....A lapel badge from WWII era and a harness button from WWI era....Attached is a photo showing the front and back to help solve the mystery....The back looks to like it actually had three tabs to hold it in place....

hello hugh, i stand corrected in that i told you it was a lapel pin from ww2 era, i had not seen the back of the piece you found. balenim hit it on the head...the three tabs are meant to fold over and grab the leather. i must say that the lapel pins look much like your find on the front face, but not on the back. thanks, and hh
