Hard Times Token

Ok everyone. Newbie coming through. This is my first post as well, and I have been playing with the camera to try and post some finds, so bare with me. I will get it right eventually. I recently got the new Super 12 coil and hit a yard that I hunted to death with my standard 9.5" I found this 1837 hard times token at about 11", which at the time I thought was a large cent until I took it home, cleaned it up, and noticed the word NOT above the ONE CENT. I had to Google it to find the story behind it. Very interesting. The 3 is very deceiving. It looks like a 5, but is definitely a 3. Thanks for looking and HH.

Very interesting find, impressive depth too! Was the yard trashy and would the detector ever "freak" out by using such a large coil? I can't imagine using a coil that big at some of the high traffic areas I go, but maybe private yards like the one you hunted are not so full of targets. Way to go!

Thanks Matt. It was a yard that I had hit a few times really well with the standard 9.5" coil, so it was pretty clean of anything 6" and shallower. You can't really use the 12" coil in trashy areas. It will indeed "freak" out. Of course, I am still pretty new to the hobby, so I am learning more everytime I hunt. It was cool to go back to a yard I felt I had detected very well, and start pulling deeper, older stuff out of the ground.
