Harbor Freight pinpointer

I bought what I remember to be a multi-purpose "studfinder" from Harbor freight last year. I bought it with the idea of modifying it with plans I found on the internet by removing the sensor and lengthening the wires then epoxying it into a piece of thinwall plastic pipe, capping it and finally epoxying it to the side of the "studfinder". All in all it took an hour or so but works like a champ, depth or distance is around 1.5" - 2.5". Price I really don't remember, probably about $10 - 15$ tops. Heres a picture.

That pinpointer is all I use and it works really well for the price. If ever it goes bad
I will replace it with another one.

Interesting conversion.
Now if I could only buy those stud finders up here.
No Harbour Freights for a thousand kilm. of here:thumbdown:

We just had a new HF store open here last Tuesday. I was able to scarf up the last one they had! It's good for about 2". It came with a battery and carrying case you can attach to your belt. Not bad for $15.

With little differences. (different switch but same placement, different led placement & color, added sensitivity knob).

I would LOVE it if someone opened one up & took a picture!

I wonder how it compares (in performance) to an old bullseye?

I am wondering if whoever made the old whites bulleye pinpointer is now making & selling them as this?

I am thouroughly intrigued.

I just bought a Harbor Freight "Metal Detector" manufactured by "CEN-TECH". Item number is 97245. Bought it in the small town
of Dickson City, Pennsylvania. ZIP 18519. The price on the shelf was posted as $34.95 but at the check-out counter the price was
$14.98. It came with a 9v battery and holster. At home, it detected a penny at about 1 1/2". Not bad for $15. I paid $79 for one that looks and works the same and is just as sturdy. The Harbor Freight store had 6 or seven more on the shelf. It doesn't vibrate, just has a loud "beeep". A small piece of tape aplied over the speaker opening will quiet it down real nice. Harbor freight

It works OK.

I keep it for a back-up for
when my Tiny Tec Breaks.

The tip was not glued on.
When I went to wipe tha
dirt off it, tha tip came out

and almost broke tha wire.
