Harbor Freight pin-pointer $14.95!!

I don't remember who posted on this forum about the handheld pin-pointer metal detector from Harbor Freight, but I picked one up. I played with it in my back yard digging a few holes and putting in different metals, covering up the holes again to see how well it worked.
The thing works pretty dang good! For $14.95, ya can't go wrong.
The max depth I got was about 1 and 1/2 inch on a quarter, but I just wanted it for when I dig a hole so I can stick it in the hole to pin-point whatever metal is in there.
So, who ever posted this. Thanks. I was thinking of buying a hand held pin-pointer that was 3 times a much as this one was.

I case anyone else is interested. The unit is from Harbor Freight Tools, it's made by CEN-TECH and is Model 97245.

I am getting to "dig" this hobby!!

Ya know.....I just don't know anymore. I was one of the boosters of this pin-pointer, but I'm of the opinion now that the best works are done using your favorite digger to loosen the soil, then using a plastic hand-shovel to wave your diggings over the coil that found the target in the first place, and leave all the rest of your junk in the car! The exception would be maybe a "sifter" and maybe that Ham and cheese sandwich on whole wheat! Maybe hell, gimmy that sandwich !!! Just one mans opinion :clapping::clapping::clapping:

I just bought one and have to be within 3/8" to 1/2" of a zinc penny for it to sound off. How is such a device useful with such a limited range?

Thanks.

Mark

You should get over twice the depth that you are getting. If you are using the cheapo battery that came with the unit you might try putting in a quality fresh battery. If that doesn't work you should exchange it...something is wrong with the unit in my opinion.
