had to jump in the shower quickly after my drive home to go out with the kids and some friends for a dinner date.
well today started like any other day of hunting.got up to Scotts around 9:30 and we headed to the field of dreams.i havent detected in over three months and wasn't sure if the machine would even start up..but she did.when it also reset itself and all my programs were wiped out.great!!now i gotta sit and try to remember what all the settings were.well i got it somewhat right but it was still being flippy and i had to keep stopping and tweeking it when i got frustrated enough to bother.we bounced around for a few hours and i was getting chirps everytime i swung the coil and i was thinking about doing a Ric javolin with it into the woods.
i was getting fed up.i finally got a signal that hit on both sides of the swing and it was at good depth.after digging around i finally located the big rusty nail and my patience was pretty much sapped by then.
Scott seeing my frustration said''c'mon man lets hit the front of the field''.so we moseyed on down while i was still trying to tame the fluted beast that bounced around my headphones.
Scott had some good luck in a location he was at earlier in the week but it was trashy,so now the machine was really going ape ship.
o.k time to spread out and go to a spot we have covered before, but ya just never know.so off i went to sulk in privacy.
then i got a great sounding hit but was very sceptical to believe what my ears were telling me.took a big scoop with my digger and scanned the plug.beep beep...great it's probobly a clad coin in the first 3 inches.scanned around with the tinytech and it was in a little pile of clod that had dropped down.BEEEEEP..ok. there it is...
ohh what a minute thats a silver button or coin sitting on edge before me.i gently moved the dirt with my fingers and hot dang!!!
THATS 1652 LOOKING AT ME!!!i KNOW this coin,i've dreamed about it since day one of detecting it was a mass shilling and now i was finding it hard to breath.my muscles tensed up immidiatly and i gave out a war cry and and flew into the new''pine tree shilling shuffle''danse.Scott ran over and i showed him and we just gave a big bear hug to each other and jumped around like two fools for 20 minutes.
we both have been goading to each other for years to dig one and finally the day had arrived.
thank you Scott of all the''firsts''you've helped me in finding over the years, this was the absolute BEST!!!!i will never forget this day and the feeling of holding such a great piece of history...and i owe it all to you man.THANK YOU!!!
and thanks to all the folks on this forum that keep me laughing, entertained, and motivated.even when theres snow on the ground out here, you folks from the south and sunnier places keep me going till the next time i can hunt.all of you make this place a great family intervention to be part of.
HAPPY NEW YEARS TO ONE AND ALL OF YOU FOLKS!!i wish that all of you get your dream coin in the next year!
LIFE IS GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
