hunting question. Planning to visit the Huntington beach area on Sept 6 2011; for 2 days. I'm told there is Huntington Beach and Huntington State Beach are these two diff beaches or one and the same? Are they worth checking out? Or should I be going elsewhere?Which beaches in the area would be best to check out on this very tight time frame? Any recommendations? Are there any restrictions on detector useage? I am a "dry sand" hunter only, any recommendations in this regard? I would be using the Troy X3 metal detector. A "BIG" thanks to all who care to reply. May 2011 be your best metal detecting year ever!!!

There is a "City of Huntington beach. The Beach its self is run by the state.alto of people in the summer. The parking lot is open until 10 and you can night hunt until closing. I have seen a couple of hunters do well.

I believe that the city beach is north of the pier and the state beach is south of it. Either beach should be worth a try. Both have wide stretches of dry sand. I think that the state beach is much more popular but probably hunted more as well. If you're not within walking distance it's like $18 to park at either of those beaches. You also have Newport Beach and Balboa Beach a couple of miles south of Huntington where you can find free street parking. HH!
