Meaning May 5th... independence from Spain in 1810. (Really has nothing to do with mayonnaise)
"Cinqo de Mayo is remembered as the day that Mexican people exhibited great courage and determination to defend themselves against a major colonial European power by fighting a battle and winning against all odds - thereby eventually securing their right to self-rule. The day is symbolic of Mexican pride, unity and patriotism."
Apparently the proud people of Mexico are not so happy with their symbolic day of Mexican pride, unity and patriotism and want to leave Mexico and come to the USA by the billions. So, "Happy Cinco de Mayo!"
