On this date in 1775 , members of the second Continental Congress met in Tun's Tavern in Philadelphia. They resolved to raise two battalions of American Marines to serve in the American Revolution. That was the beginning of the United States Marine Corps. On their 233rd birthday, we honor those Marines who serve today, those who served in the past, and their fallen comrades.
