Happiness is a Pulltab

Out in the park today with the GTI2500 ... couple of quarters, three dimes, two nickels, some pennies, all clad.

One of the dimes was 5 inches down, with a solid signal and perfect imaging on the GTI2500.

I got a nickel/pulltab signal at 4 inches. As I starting digging a plug, a guy and his wife were strolling by, and they stopped to watch.

It was a pulltab, the classic kind with the ring and beaver tail.

The guy was amazed to see it. It's been many years since anybody held one of those in his hand. It's a piece of the past -- when a guy pulled a tab to have a sip (or chug-a-lug) from a can of cold beer.

I told him how it would go to recycling, unless he wants it. He was enthusiastic to get it. He said it's a collector's item, and it will go on his desk or coffee table as a conversation piece.

How many more pull tabs does he want - I have plenty to spare that I dug up with my old GTI 2500, I think I bought it in 2000 & have passed it on to my son because it is one heavy machine. Congrats on your finds and wish you many more while out dirt fishing with your GTI 2500.

Need to call Lance on the detectorist to get clarification on the value of antique pulltabs " people buy this crap on eBay " he said on the first season or something like. Lol
Removable beaver tail pulltabs were a lot of fun when your learned how to shoot the ring with the tab. They would sail a long ways, if you got a good one. Seperate the ring from the beaver tail. Hold the beaver tail by the wide end and insert the broken edge into the notch where the tab seperated on the ring. Pull back the ring until it loads up pressure and release the ring would fly off for a long distance. That is why we find so many rings without the tails attached. It was a little sad when they began making cans with the pulltabs attached and the tail fold into the can. Young people don't know what they missed from the old day before we had at home video games

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. And I agree. Beer tasted better when it came out of cans with ring pulls.

(I've thrown thousands in the trash.)
