Hand held VS detector mounted Pin pointers :surrender:

Ok, I am hoping for some advise on this, I know people swear by the Sunray probe, others say its not needed and a hand held is just fine (Garrett pro pointer). I currently have an MXT Pro and have a Bounty hunter pinpointer that was a gift. I am finding that the pin pointer that I have does not work unless it is touching the coin/pulltab so half the time I end up not using it. I know I could save a couple bucks by getting the handheld but I really don't want to end up in the same boat by getting an upgraded handheld if the sunray dx1 is that much better. I looked thru the Sunray Forum and found that people have nothing but good things to say about the Sunray but it is the Sunray forums afterall...I appreciate any and all opinions on this.

I think the consensus will be the same here as well. The Pro Pointer is a good handheld and you will get more depth than what you are using now, but it is still no substitute for a SunRay DX-1. You may have read some past posts where the Pro Pointer causes some interference with detectors when it is too close. That is not the case with the DX-1 and the DX-1 will also get much more depth and your target ID and depth indicator will still be active on you MXT while using the DX-1. For me it is a no brainer. The only negative that I can think of is the DX-1 will add a little weight to your detector if that is a factor, but there is an optional box mount for the probe if you do not want to mount it on the upper rod.

I'm with Larry. Go with the Sunray. Aside from the performance, no forgetting or losing it. No extra batteries. Rugged, built to last. You will be glad you got one.

TOTALLY agree with Larry. DX -1 is the only way to go. I wouldnt have anything else ! CCH :usmc:

Well that kinda clinches it for me, I have heard nothing but good about the Sun Ray probe so it looks like I will be getting one myself. I appreciate everyones thoughts on this.

I have the Propointer and will never be without it........until I can pick up a DX1.
