Hand Grip

I got mine pretty dirty awhile back, and i used some warm water and an old tooth brush. Now it's dirty again.Don't know if that's the right way but it worked.

I got mud all over my handle every time I use it. I clean it when I come back home before I put it away. I found that a dish towel sized sham wow works very good. I just get it wet then wring it out and wipe around it and then rinse it out two or 3 times and it looks like new again. Then go over it the last time by wring out the clean sham wow to soak up any residual water.

I wear a pare of tight mechanics gloves when digging, they work well when picking up small items and keeps my hands clean so when detecting I not getting dirt and mud all over my detector. Also I use Glad cling wrap { clear plastic wrap } around my handle and replace it when it get to dirty that keeps the foam on your handle looking new. You can carry a box of it behind the seat of your truck so you always have it with you change it as often as you need to...........

I simply keep my hand clean. :clapping:

I don't like my equipment, be them guns or detectors, to get dirty and most often anyone who views my detectors are surprised they aren't heavily used looking. I am right handed and I simply search with the detector in my right hand. My left hand does all the recovery work. If I am searching woodchip or sand-filled playgrounds I generally just toe-scuff the medium to get to the target. If it is in lawn or dirt, then I quickly pinpoint, squat down or sometimes kneel down, and use my rounded screwdriver probe to locate the target and pop it out. If necessary, I will use the Lesche digger to cut a plug for recovery, all using my left hand, or a pinpointer if it comes into use.

I seldom set my detector down during recovery, and very, very seldom use my 'detector hand' for target recoveries. When I do, I usually clean my coil and any other parts when I am done with the search. It's easier to wipe down and clean a control housing or display pod or foam grip as soon as possible than it is to try and clean 'aged' dirt, especially with foam hand-grips or arm cup pads.

Monte

I'm like you Monte. I very seldom get my hands dirty. So in turn, my equipment stays clean. My right hand hold the detector and my left hand retrieves the target. Problem is that the machine gets dirtier in the back of Larry's truck than when I use it. HH, Nancy

I'm like Monty except that I swing with my left hand and dig with my right. I also have a towel attached to my belt on the left side and if I do get my left hand dirty a quick wipe on the towel and I off swinging again.

I guess I am a pig compared to Monte and Nancy. My gloves get dirty as does my grip and during my hunt I do sit my MXT on the ground to dig a target, as it has a stand to keep it off the dirt or grass. At the end of my hunt I clean the entire detector, coil cover included, which is a pain. I take good care of my equipment which comes from many years in the military and Law enforcement where clean equipment can save your life, but of course with a metal detector a clean machine means many years of service. Oink Oink, Dennis in Idaho

I agree Dennis, I get dirty also but I am in a state that has that sticky red clay that gets and stays on every thing. It would be nice to live were the dirt isn't dirty.............
I to keep my equipment clean military training also.....:usaflag:
