Nice button Jay  I remember going out there when they first started clearing. I ended up with 104 buttons total for 2 years of hunting that spot. We went back in March of this year, and my buddy pulled out a US Boss. The only thing I never found out there was a plate. Did you go in the woods, or on the clearing?

Man, 104 buttons, I don't think I have that many in my entire collection.I was just looking at Power Point presentation I made of some of the relics found there and decided to hop down this past weekend. Three hourd of hunting and 1 NY button, no bullets, still lots of junk. I found that one plate back in the far left corner along the edge of the wooded area 2 years ago. I got down there late, I was hunting in SHarpsburg at a farm when all the digging was going on at Halltown. I got down there 2 months after they started excavating. I met a lot of nice people and seen a lot of relics roll out of that spot. Those were the days!

Jay..could you post a pic of back of button. I have a set of 9 NY button and two cuff buttons (non-dug) that I would like to compare with yours. Thanks TomB:detecting:

Hey Relics - nice button.

I have the Warren Tice button book, Uniform Buttons of the United States, 1776-1865 - if I could read the letters a bit better on the back I could identify it beyond the Modell 1855/1858 Staff Button for All New York Line Officers and Men. Tice gives a specific number for the various makers and manufacturers of these.

Cool find.

Haven't tried detecting yet - a buddy and I have it as a list to undertake as part of our research for a civil war regiment we work on.
