I read on another forum of a guy who's going to cash in about 250 silver halves, Franklins, Walkers & even a few Barbers. All of these he had obtained from going through rolls of them from the banks & then returning them for more.
Question - do any of you do this with success ? Steve in so az

My grandfather use to do that on his payday. But that was in the 70's. He would get several silver coins that way, and some really old silver. Now it is a rare find to get that silver. Before teaching I was a cashier and older customers would pay with silver coins. I would pay face value back to the register. I would also let all the other employees that worked the registers to look out for silver coins for me. I got several this way. As far as getting rolls from the bank, this was a very common thing for coin collectors in the past. Unfortunatly the chance of finding silver is not as good as it use to be.

I always ask for the most beat up old looking rolls thay have! Just be sure that they don't have a %fee to bring the coins back!

I think you are right about that. I tried several times and no luck. People do say that the odds are much better in small towns, steve

I've never found any silver that way. I had an aquaintance that worked for Coke that would go through the change when loading the machine. He got LOTS of old silver that way!!!

I was able to get 1 1/2 rolls of 1964 silvers and 2 1/2 rolls of silver clads. Went through about $3500 of halves to do that. Cash my check and get $100-$200 worth look at hem overnight and turn them in on Sat. morning and go get more. Most banks don't want them as no one uses them and they have monet tied up in them. Thus even if you don't have an account with them they will let you get them. Happy hunting to anyone that wants to try this. I'm selling what I have left for $7.85 on the face dollar per silver and $3.00 per face dollar for the silver clads. May God bless!

a michigan state football and basketball games i get to go thru over $300.00 in half and i allway come away with at less 2.00 half.
