Half Dime, Mercury Dime and 2 Buffalo's

Another good day with the Deus. I got 5 Wheaties within the first couple hours and then came the two Buffalo's. I was thinking that this house should have some silver due to it's age (Mid 1800). I started to slow my swing rate down and that's when I seen a 97 to 98 on the vdi, decided to dig and that's when I seen the small silver rim in the clump of dirt. Its my first Half Dime (1853), the Mercury dime is a 1943 and two 1936 buffalo's. Thanks for looking and Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.

Nothing wrong with that. Very nice

Great finds! Question...I see a lot of ppl who notch out 97-99 to stop the iron falsing. If that dime came up with those numbers do you think the Deus would of missed it? Or would it have come up a little lower? I get confused about how it works

Outstanding finds ! :clapping:

Wow, great day with the Deus. I love half dimes. They were one of the coins I thought I might never find. Still not got a pocketful of them but they are always fun to see.

I don't think you could get a dime to come up with those numbers but if it did there would be no sound. Notching 97-99 removes those numbers from the headphones. The coil still sees the signal but no audio is past to the headphones. The deus assigns a number to all targets from 0-100. And then acts accordingly to the settings you have set up. The 97-99 notch out just removes some of the chirps you get as you go along.

I have found my share of silver dimes with those numbers. I think in this case the Deus could barely detect the half dime (and thus assigned those numbers) due to its small size. I find that when I dig a 97-99 signal and I get a silver dime it's because the dime was either on it's side or it was in the 7-9 inch depth range. I agree that if you notch out those numbers you would not hear the signal and possibly would miss the dime.

Thanks for looking you all. I did a ground balance, up the sens to 92, switch to Deus fast, Reactivity was at a 2 and the ground condition was nice and soft with a little wetness. Both the half and the mercury dimes depth was 7 to 8 inch's. I seen the vdi numbers on the controller and heard a faint chirp in the headset. I hope this helps
Good luck.

Sorry for asking that question of your post... I just see a number of ppl who say to notch out 97-99 to get rid of iron wrap around but now I'm curious what could be missed. I guess depending how the detector is setup you might be able to change what vdi a deeper target may give?

Most silver dimes I get read 90/91 down to 6-8 inch mark while running at 18khz(8 inch coil). The half dimes I have found ranged from 87 to 90 with the lower VDI #'s being the deeper ones. One of the half dimes I found at a good 10 inches and it read 88. I never notch 97-99.
