Hail Mary, what would I have done without her?.....

Gulf Hunter

Well, Gulf Huntress has returned from Arkansas and she was soo glad to see me (ditto on that). She was itching to go hunting with me, so after church away we went with visions of treasures lost over our 2 weeks of spring brake. She was hunting the parking lot and dry sand on the beach with the Ace 250. The surf was "rough-as-bricks" as Max says. SE winds at 15-20 and tides running .5-1.0 feet above normal. Got in the surf around 12pm and we had an 1141am 1.4L and hunting into a 345pm 1.4H, so as ya'll can see conditions were lame, but I had to go, you know. Used the Mark II with my new 10x14 elliptical coil. Dug some holes out there lemme tell ya. Ended up with 1 penny and the medallion. There is no mark, but it sure did polish up nice and it is engraved on the back as I hope ya'll can see. I scratched it on my stone and shot a little 10k acid to it and it held, so I guess it goes into the gold chest. Sure would feel better about the piece if it was marked. Got a few shots of the hunt, and the second 1 has a fan checking out what's coming out of the hole.

This is my 2nd medallion like this. I consulted my dealer who has a 16x loupe (I bought 1 now too) about this find. He told me that in Mexico they have gold sheet (probably 10k) and they press it over puter or some other non-ferrous metal. So the prognosis is that it is sort of gold, but not solid gold. For now it is in the junk box, but it may get a promotion if I ever need some scrap.

Man those wave dont look like they gave you much of a break in between each other. That must have been tough digging.
