Had The Pleasure of Meeting

Mr Monte the other night. I was amazed Monte just lives down the road a ways from me. I contacted him about some problems I was having with the X30. He wrote back and explained some of the things that could be the problem and tried to help me out with them. I tried them out and found I was still experiencing some problems and let him know.

Monte again answered some questions and said he would be in my area on Monday and he would like to stop by and chat. I called him set up a time for him to come over and he showed up about 5:00. I have to tell ya, we talked for over 2-1/2 hours on detectors and did it ever fly by fast. If he hadn't had another commitment we might still be out there talking. This guy is a walking encyclopedia on detecting and for a new hobbyist like me I couldn't take it in fast enough.

I did find out that the X30 was having some problems because of my soil conditions. Our ground here is really negative and just about any preset factory detector will have problems. So after my trip to Sacramento starting tomorrow it will be goodbye to the X30 and on to a new manual GB machine. Hopefully the X30 will serve me well in Sac and I will find some nice stuff on that 1922 property.

I will say this about the X30 thou. In better soil conditions this machine is still a good machine. It pounded out dimes and quarters and for being some far out of balance, it did well on nickels and pennies. The discrimination wasn't that bad either. I can imagine what it would be like to use a X50 or X70. If they had the smaller coil for it I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

Hi tink.
It sure is great when you get to meet fellow enthusiasts. I find it a rare pleasure. But when it happens, there is never enough time:beers:
Sorry to hear about the X30 being no good for your ground. There are plenty of good detectors out the that will do the job for you. The only problem,So many choices:stars:. Oh well; it is a nice sort of torment really:heh:. All the best.
Mick Evans.

I had the same pleasure a couple of summers ago. My wife and I were in Portland for the day, and he took time out of his busy schedule to stop by where I was hunting to give me some tips and pointers for my Pantera. Even with his bad back, he stood there for a couple of hours helping me out too!
