Had the NEW Quest Q40 out last Sunday :canadaflag:

Had the all brand new model, Quest Q40 out Sunday. Field testing this new production model for 3.5 hours before the sun made things too hot, to continue.

It will find Canadian clad, it will find them to 6", deepest of any coins we found to day at the hunt site. Typical for backfilled schoolyards around here. There were targets past 9", I quit
digging for. Probably sprinkler pipes, scrap iron, etc. in the deeper hard packed dirt layer.

The Q40 has an excellent feature set, comfy handle, balances well with the 9x11 coil- no wrist or elbow fatigue, stable in operation, easy to navigate menu. Found no programming
issues.

Found as many coins and amount as a friend did with his AT Pro in the surface to 6" depth range. Not implying its better than the AT Pro.
Just using it as a reference point as many owners of an AT Pro can relate to target audio at that depth. just like the AT Pro, the Q40 will find coins to deeper depths.

Dug a ton trash as I needed to learn how this detector react when locating many types of targets. Target ID's were easy to grasp........

In the end found about $8, two rings, one silver.

Overall, a wonderful detector. I like it.

Now if I can get a 5x9 and or 5" coil for it, think it could really be a trashy area clad magnet.

Todays good finds not bad for a school that more than likely was hunted pretty hard in the past.

Should mention the Q40 does like gold ring targets, according to my back yard in ground testing, big plus in my book.

OK....hitting Canadian clad these days requires a few extra comments. Freshly dropped coins vs. some dropped a year ago. Old loonies vs. the new loonies. (I am talking about coins:rofl:) Judging from the pic, it looks like drops at least a couple of months....just enough time to get some oxidation on them making them easier to produce a signal. Our coinage is weird. Steel coins plated with nickel? They can read as nickels, pennies or iron......just depends.

Sorry John only one or two coins were buried less than 1" deep, all others were mostly from the 3-6" range. Some even on slanted edge. In my post I did mention, this school was hit before by some one or more people. Probably a good reason why there were no surface coins, and the deeper coins left behind. Schoolyards anywhere in our city are hit hard, about 35 members in our club. And countless other detector owners within 60km from the city. So it can be quite a challenge to find a school with plenty of recent drops. This is not Vancouver, Edmonton or even Toronto where people have holes in their pockets. Every hunt is a challenge here. Next time you make a secret vacation trip to our area, you let me know and you can experience hunting in London, Ontario, you can then also try out a Quest, heck even my new Nokta Impact, after 30 years of detecting buying and trying I would take the Impact over the AT Pro, it loves Canadian clad new and old.
You and I and other Canadians know many detectors on the market don't ID Can. clad as good some detectors do. AT Pro is a favorite by many Canadians. That's why I used that model to compare the Q40 to.
My friend has been using his AT for many years and even has a second one. He likes it so much, he won't even consider the AT Max.

Great finds there!

I would like to try the Quest! Next summer. Maybe meet at Grand Bend, my old stomping grounds? I got 2 nice gold rings there this summer. The sand would also give off a lot of information. I have been to Lonon many times. That whole area is a metal detecting wonderland. :)
