Had an unexpected, unusual, but potentially good thing happen while hunting today...

I was hunting for a bit today at an old park in town, when an older lady walking two dogs stopped to talk to me. I chatted with her for awhile, and she told me a few interesting things about the park -- where some older things used to be that are no longer there. As we talked, she told me how she lived a couple of blocks from the park, and owned a small home plus a couple of adjacent lots, and how she has found old tokens and stuff sometimes, working in the dirt of her property. She then said "it would be interesting for you to bring your machine to my house and see what's in the ground..." I couldn't believe my ears! :) She ended up giving me her address and phone number, and told me I could come by and hunt any time!

I checked online, and while her home is not that old -- built in 1950, she told me of an old barn on an adjacent lot that she owns, and I also noted that the neighbor's houses are older (mid-1930s). Not sure if this will amount to anything, but it sounds like there is at least some potential. I can honestly say this is the first time (and probably the last!) that a stranger, out of the blue, OFFERED for me to hunt their yard! :) That sure beats knocking on doors and asking for permission! :)

Sounds Great!! I have had that happen before and it turned out well. Good luck!! HH Mark

Steve,

One of two things happened here; either she was awestruck by your personality, knowledge and willingess to converse with her AND sensed you were a nice guy, or she is a desperatly lonely lady in need of some additional conversation. I AM GOING WITH THE FORMER!. Great job dude! Your helping us spread the word we are normal, real, interesting people.:twodetecting::cheers:

OK, Ed and Greasecarguy -- you got me worried! :) Hope I'm not being viewed as fodder for a granny serial killer, or as possible date material...! :) J/K!

I will probably go by some time soon and give it a shot, see how it goes.

If it looks like it's going to be productive, I'll give you a call, Bart! :)

I'd bring a friend who's more chatty and possiably better looking too, hahaha. It will keep her busy and leave you free to detect right!! JMHO (just my humble opinion) lol.

Joe -- you are NOT helping things here!

You neither, Tom! Your suggestion presents a dilemma...I could take a better looking friend along, that's not too hard to pull off! But, the chatty part is another issue...if you have read many of my posts, you probably see I am a bit, ahh, long-winded?! :) That might be what got me in trouble with -- I mean, got me this great opportunity, in the first place! ;)

WOW, that exact same scenario happened to me a few years back. Lady with 2 dogs stopped and chatted with me at a local park. Told me about a girl who threw here engagement ring in a snow bank one winter across from her house which is a block from this park. She said to stop by after I'm done and she would show me the area. I took her up on that and while i was scanning the sidewalk for the ring she approached me with a can of Coor's light and said I looked thirsty. She said when i was done to stop bye her house and was welcomed to hunt her yard as well. I ended up a while later sitting by her pool in the back yard having another beer talking about hunting property. To end this story i have to say after hunting the park the sidewalk and a knocking down a few beer's i told her i would be back someday and I'll bring the beer. I have passed that house a few times after that but never did stop in. The kicker is she was in her 50's, blond, very attractive and must have burned her bra because she wasn't wearing one.

hey johnspoppi, think i could get that address from ya, sounds like a good day of detecting one way or another!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
