Had an opportunity of using a relatives Xterra 70...Some questions

Appreciate you reading this Message..Think I need a little help.

Took an Xterra 70 detecting today..Old park hunted to death............

Set up..GB, Tracking on, sens 24, Noise can 1...............Disc.Pattern 2.. 7.5 " Standard coil

Did not dig one single coin....All others (2) one using an XL-Pro Whites, another using Minelab XS..found plenty of new coins.

The only targets the Xterra sounded off on were either pull tabs..reading high 40's, or Screw caps..reading 30, 32,34........Not one coin was found.
Zip zero..No Zincs, No new dimes, No nickles, Nothing.....other than the trash targets.Other.Readings were 45-46 and nothing in the ground after digging.
Some pull tabs read 36-38..........But the other two guys found tons of new money...

Anyone have any thoughts on this..............And before you ask..The other guys hunted same areas I did and pulled out coins right behind me..

It does seem to pick up coins in an air-test.but not very far from the coil....The readings are not typical in air-tests either...Quarters 44, dimes 38, Nickles 14...not the typical readings in air-tests. Batteries were rechargeable batteries, and tested full charge, and read so on the display meter. Could the rechargeable batteries have effected the machine...............Does it sound like a bad coil ?...machine is about two days old.

Whats your take on this....A problem, or just didn't go over the targets.though I am fairly certain I did.. Appreciate any advice you can offer up.Thanks for reading

There are a lot of possibilities if you're not that familiar with the machine. The 70 has 3 discrimination patterns. Your relative might have tinkered with them to block a lot of things out, depending on what he was searching for. Swinging too fast might also be a problem but it would have to be very fast. Just a few thoughts. There are really a lot of variables.

that's weird. Sure sounds like something is messed up there. Hope his detector isn't broken but it sounds like it is to me.

When you buddies got a coin hit did you check it with the 70? Did you overlap your sweeps by 50%?

check the coin with their detectors On & Off. Also bury some coins yourself and check.

Hi. XLT
Next time try turning off auto track and go to all metal. If you air tested it and i worked ok i would think the coil is ok, but how far away was the coins you air tested ? air testing can be alittle tricky. You can sweep the X-70 as fast as the XLT ( ive had both) . If you can go alone ( no other detector interference) go all metal, keep auto off, G.B every 15 to 20 min. and if you have another coil put that on and try it again. If this dont work you might have to send it in. I hope this helps you. IMHO

I will try some different things..and I am going to try Alkaline batteries..............

Having never used an Xtera before ..i am pretty sure it was me..Just thought it strange I hit no coins at all...........

I think your Sensitivity is set too high for your soil conditions. My suggestion would be to turn it all the way back to 15 and try it again.

Would not work for him either and he has detected for over 25 years..He switched out the coils to the DD and all seemed much better..
He then tried a 7.5 from a guys Xterra 50 and it worked fine, but the 7.5 from my Uncles would not work properly on the Xterra 50.......We figure it has to be the coil.................I just hope the machine isn't off a little too...He has had bad luck lately with his choice of machines... But with the DD dime read 36, zinc read 30, quarter read 42 and was the same with borrowed coil..Thanks all appreciate your input..
