When I got it the silent search mod was done to it and I tried it, but like my Threshold to tell when it is nulling and for when the tone changes. I switched it back to the threshold and had to try it. I didn't use this coil that was on it, but one I am field testing to see what it would do on the XS as I know what it will do on my GT. I think now I know the GT is more sensitive as every signal with the GT seem to lock right on to the correct number on my Sun Ray meter, plus the tones. Now with the XS I notice it didn't lock on as nice and I could get the numbers up to a good signal, but feel the GT will do it better.
In the hour and a half I had to hunt I worked a area I tried before at a old farm site and didn't find anything but deep zinc fruit jar lids and I did again with most 12 inches deep and gave a 177 signal. I decided to try a area I had worked for 2 days or 5 hours with the Explorer XS II to see if the XS could pick up anything the Explorer missed. Wasn't long before I got that nice tone change in the th resold that was a bit weak, but knew there was something there. I pinpointed and dug the 8 inch deep plug and went in with the Uniprobe being my S1 is on my GT and got a few signals and picked out 4 Wheaties the 1913, 1915, 1916D and the 1918 out of the same hole. Wasn't more then 6 or 7 feet and got another weak signal that I could get the number to go to 177 and picked out the 1902 IH at 9 inches. Within another 6 or 7 feet got the 1917 Wheaties (need the 1914 for the straight, but no luck) Wondered around and picked up the 1930 Wheaties before I had to go home, but will have to get back and check out that area I worked with the Explorer as I bet there is more there. Don't get me wrong the Explorer is a great detector, but I can understand the tones of the Sovereign better and only got fooled one time with a rusty wire I thought was a coin with the XS, so I feel more confidence with the Sovereign as far as coin versas trash.
