Had a great week detecting.

Finally got a good break in the weather this week and got out for a good exploration in a neglected area in the open bush.
Started slow but turned out great.
I found two 1861 coins, a half penny and a full penny, an old braces buckle in perfect nick and four species with gold. The best bit has 2 gs in it.
I spied a small drive into the hillside and went ot have a look and couldnt believe I was looking at the old diggers lantern hanging there still on the wall. The glass is embosed with a hand holding a flame and some german writing. I broke my own golden rule of never entering a shaft or old tunnel and walked away from it twice. But couldnt resist it in the end.
Then I found what appeared to be a large brass heart shape. I wrote it off till yesterday as just a curious find until I picked up a copy of the US treasure magazine a mate lent me and saw the heart, exactly what I found, in the finds section. It is a Martingale from a horses harness
used to stop them from rearing up. Apparently the one I found is exactly like the one in the picture in the mag which they say is the type used in military harnesses of US origen worth around $250 to $300 US.
I think I might go back there next week for another look.
Get some pictures up when I get around to snapping a few off.

old coins, jewelry and relics. Sounds like the perfect week to me! Congrats on the finds. I'm anxious to see the pics. HH Randy

Wow, very nice post! Do you have a digital camera? That hanging lantern would have made a great picture. If you want to write down the German words on it I will translate it for you, maybe something like "Glueckauf" on the lantern which means good luck, a common word among German miners going into the mines. HH, Mike

I dont have a digital camera yet, just a film type but will get some pics of it all soon. Next week probably. I went back two days ago and made some more great finds. Three species and one little 1 g nugget. I was detecting near an old diggers dam from the 1860s and dug out an old Cricket belt buckle with a picture of two guys playing cricket on it. Unfortunately its seen a bit of damage on the edges but the picture is still spot on.
I was using the 18.75khz 10x5 dd and boy was it jittery. The larger round 18.75 was just too noisy there with some type of interference. Changing freqs did nothing to stop it. It was hard work as with the interference I had to double sweep to make sure I wasnt missing anything. I sometimes get this jittery noise in places where I sort of least expect it. It always pops up though in hilly country when your at a bit of altitude. Weird.
