Finally got a good break in the weather this week and got out for a good exploration in a neglected area in the open bush.
Started slow but turned out great.
I found two 1861 coins, a half penny and a full penny, an old braces buckle in perfect nick and four species with gold. The best bit has 2 gs in it.
I spied a small drive into the hillside and went ot have a look and couldnt believe I was looking at the old diggers lantern hanging there still on the wall. The glass is embosed with a hand holding a flame and some german writing. I broke my own golden rule of never entering a shaft or old tunnel and walked away from it twice. But couldnt resist it in the end.
Then I found what appeared to be a large brass heart shape. I wrote it off till yesterday as just a curious find until I picked up a copy of the US treasure magazine a mate lent me and saw the heart, exactly what I found, in the finds section. It is a Martingale from a horses harness
used to stop them from rearing up. Apparently the one I found is exactly like the one in the picture in the mag which they say is the type used in military harnesses of US origen worth around $250 to $300 US.
I think I might go back there next week for another look.
Get some pictures up when I get around to snapping a few off.
