He shared a spot I had never heard of before. It was a ghost town. Had only dreamed of doing that on several occassions. Lots of square nails. Rusty hinge. Lots of other iron. Sorry no coins but we don't figure we even scratched the surface of that place.
Ken has his own detector now - my old GTAx 1250 is his and he loves it. Actually I think it is working better for him than it was me as he found something at about 9 inches down. Confirmed the depth with my ACE 250 that said it was 8+. Since I had the best digger for digging a deep hole and a pinpointer Snoop allowed me to dig up his find. It was small about the size of a sling shot steel shot but cleaned up a little I could see it had silver in it.
Have joking and half serious I said "It looks like ya got your first tooth". This wasn't a playground where some kid might have lost a tooth - it was just outside a cemetary. Kinda spooky.
I felt bad having a good digger compared to what he had and that he had no pinpointer made me feel a little uneven in our hunt. But that has changed and Snoop now has a very cool looking Bulls Eye pinpointer. Makes mine look a little shabby hahahaha.
He can't wait to get out to use the pinpointer and to get out to several other places he knows of that has potential for old coins.
He did find a porcalein (?) lid to an old jar and the metal band. There was a hole left where it came out of but there was no jar!
I think someone found a cache of coins before we did and left the hole unfilled.
Snoop and his wife Carol have been invited to join us at the next club meeting in Plainwell and they are looking forward to going. Can't tell you how much we miss the meetings. It will be a 3 hour ride to get there but I know it will be worth it - as it always is.
Who knows maybe he will win a good digger as a door prize - now wouldn't that be great eh.
Oh yeah I have 2 GPS units now. Haven't used them for geocaching - yet. But did use it to find a place in Bay City we wanted to go to and wasn't sure where it was at. Pretty close to accurate.
Well just thought would keep you advised that we all are alive and well. Oh yeah ran across a detectorist in Bay City - he was searching around a street and sidewalk construction project near an old building. Nice guy - using a Whites. Had to say hi to him. Had to laugh. I was trying to reassure him I wasn't more competition for him in the area by telling him "I was in Lansing and moved to Houghton Lake. Just came down to see my son and grandson here in Bay City." He smiled and said "You expect me to feel sorry for you moving to Houghton Lake" and we both laughed.
Well that's it on the home front. See you all in church today. We're still seeking one where God wants us to serve so pray we find the one God wants for us to be serving Him at. Thanks and happy hunting everyone.
