Had a great day today with a brother in Christ - got some D-tectin' in

Pete in MI

with Ken (a Christian, neighbor in our area and a Police Officer). Today was his first hunt. Taught him how to use the Garrett GTAx 1250 and his first find was....a rusty washer. Hey that isn't a bad thing. He found several coins in his yard while I was there and I left the detector along with digging tools and video and books with Ken when I left.

I got an email from him telling me after watching the video on using the detector he had an urge to go to a nearby playground and do some detecting. He found some coins and other items and even remove a dangerous piece of metal which could have harmed a child. Way to go Ken! Congrats on the finds. Hoping he will be joining our group here soon.

I think Ken got bit by the detecting bug.

Also had a great time as he shared his hobby of star gazing with me - his telescopes rock! And we even went geocaching today using his GPS unit. Found his and his wife's cache. Fantastic day all the way around.

Letting Ken get more practice in before we hit the old school property. Hoping he will find some silver (and hopefully gold) on that property. Heard it has been hunted before but we know they couldn't have taken it all with them.

Mike from MI - need to get info on how to get Ken his Iron Brigade patch. Send me an email OK? Thanks Mike.

Hope you all get out while the weather is great.

BTW I missed it - yesterday was Casey's birthday (15 years old now). She got a new computer and other stuff and she is Sooooooooooooo happy.

Pete as far as the patches go, they have not been made in years. I will check into more as I need to see about another shirt order.
I look forward to coming up and meeting Ken. Let him know I geocache too. :)

and mentioned how cool it sounded. That's how we came about going out geocaching yesterday. Talked about the club too. Will try to have him along on the next CMD Forum hunt. Maybe can get him to the club fall hunt - though I've never made a fall hunt yet. Usually I don't trust a lot of people or get close to them. Ken must be different than most in that I trust him with my land detector and other stuff. Besides  I don't think moving is in his immediate plans either
Maybe if he asks about a beginners detector might point him to the ACE 250. Would like to give the business to Al if I can. Was hinting to the wife I should have another detector since I sold that GTA 1000 Ultra last year. Guess she didn't take the hint. Course I was thinking in line of a Minelab Exterra 50 :) but probably wouldn't have turned thumbs down to the ACE 250.
