H.F. PIN POINTER

the main boys

New member
hi, everyone. just bought h.f. pin pointer. tested it out on a table to see how far away it would detect. it apears to only detect max. 1 1/4" away from coins, but it detected my tape measure at about 3" is this about the normal range. ps. use enigizer battery..,and sensitivity set at 3/4 full thanks for any info.

I bought two of these from H.F. Just like yours I could only get about 1" to 1-1/2" from one unit but the other one would air test 2" and better on quarters and nickles. So that's the one I use to find targets in the plug or down in the hole. Added some epoxy and a plastic chair leg tip to the end to keep moisture out. That didn't seem to degrade the sensitivity any. These units are not top of the line electronics ($15) and I expected a wide variation in performance from one unit to the next. If it lasts for a year I will be happy.

1-2" from the tip on coins is typical...farther for larger objects...I detected a large piece of sheet metal in someones yard at about 4 1/2 inches from the tip...I was kinda surprised...

I purchased a Tiny-Tec Deluxe for $49.99 and it will locate clad change, washers, pull tabs and jewelry at about 3" if the soil has any moisture content. But more important to me is the hardened tip for probing around the plug/hole and in sand & tire grind. Very well built, durable pinpointer, should last a very long time. I have replaced the batteries once in about 90 hours of use. The automatic shut-off feature saves on battery use.

Your pinpointer is not really designed for depth...I mean if it was that easy, I would only own a pinpointer probe and to heck with my $500 detector (I wish I had a $500 detector...lol)...
I would say 4" on coins is about tops for most pinpointers...Pinpointers are designed to put you right on top of your target, and to find that target that eludes you in the bottom or sides of your hole...Not sure about the Vibra-Probes depth...anyone have info on them???
