Guys, here

That was a good score.
No point in upgrading to the newer model...the newer one is not really much of an upgrade.

You got yourself one heck of a deal there, So far as I know (don't own an Excal and only used an 800 here and there that a friend has for a water unit) the only difference between the 800 and the II is the coil size, which you could always change later if you wanted something bigger. I'm sure any small differences between the two machines somebody more experienced will correct me on but so far as I know that's pretty much it, besides maybe the headphones or something minor.

Nice deal even without the scoop and case, they don't come up like that very often:thumbup:

You get out with that machine and before long you'll find enough to buy whatever you want. Congradulations on a super deal.:minelab::detecting:

If that scoop is a long handle aluminum or stainless steel job then you got yourself a $100 or more scoop along with it. That's pretty darn good icing on the cake.

Well, I went on my first Minelab Excal beach hunt this weekend . . . it's an amazing machine! . . . like it so much that I ordered a new II ONLY because I've been told the coil is lighter and I'm getting up in years so I think that it may make a little difference with fatigue time :)

I was hunting a beach known for a shipwreck or two and occasionally coins would wash up, and found on the beach after storms. After about 15 minutes, I had a good signal and scooped up the sand, and as I did so, I saw the glint of gold sliding back down into the wet hole. Needless to say, I was "pop-eyed" and excited. Taking a second scoop before the wave came back in, produced a quarter sized gold coin! . . . unfortunately it turned out to be a gold "Family Fun Galaxy" Token! :-( I found another one and several clad coins during my hunt and was very pleased with the Excal's performance! :)))

Today I ordered a an Anderson straight shaft, a Sun Spot 8" SS Scoop, and an extra battery pod. Can't wait until they come and I'll be at the beach again! :)

I wish to thank all of you who have offered advice and opinions through pm's, email's, and postings regarding my questions as to the Excal and various additional accessories and equipment. They have been greatly appreciated!

also they are outfitted with the tornado coils versus the heavier/thicker BBS coils. that combo alone(nimh and tornado coil) is a nice improvement, is it worth upgrading? depends on your wallet, how much you hunt, or even if you just want that neon green color:minelab:

My first Excalibur II was $685 on E-bay about a year and a half ago. I was leery about this deal because he sold another one at this price (stock photo) It didn't have a scratch on it and it also included the alkaline battery holder and a Minelab bag. Just sent it back to the factory with a bad wire on the headphones. I sent my second pair of headphones that had an Ikelite fitting on them just in case the original set couldn't be fixed. (fitting was removed) I asked Minelab whether they still had the Ikelite end for the detector so I could set up both pairs (I was told on the phone they no longer do that). One and a half months later, I get the detector back, no charge, both sets of headphone and the detector set up with the Ikelite fittings. Now in my opinion, that was a bargain.

My second Excalibur II was $550. It included everything plus a car charger. Sent this one in before I paid for it, it was still under warranty. They changed the board, coil and sent it back with a new coil cover, just like new.

They deals are out there, it just being there at the right time.

Regards,
Ron

Now you are hooked with the Excal. Since you've got two now I'd throw a 15x12 SEF on the older one and really punch down into the depths of that sand for the potential gold coins other machines just can't reach.
